A bridge is a fixed dental appliance that replaces one or more missing teeth. It gets its support from neighbouring teeth. These teeth are normally prepared in the same way as for crowns. Conventionally a tooth either side of the space is prepared for a crown.

The bridge is then made with one crown either side and the missing teeth in the middle, all joined together. Sometimes, a bridge does not have to be made by shaving down teeth. The missing tooth can merely be stuck to the neighbouring tooth or teeth with a very strong adhesive. This is called an adhesive bridge or resin bonded bridge.
